Why my photo look dark in photo book?

Compact digital camera owner is bigger than DSLR. This is due to easy carry, easy use and low price. Compact digital camera that produce low light performance photo is unable get the good print out result in paper printing. To overcome this problem, when doing photo book design we should do some photo editing to get a nice print out in paper.

There is a lot of photo editing software that able to enhance our picture such as Adobe Photoshop, and free graphic software like Irfan View and Gimp. Use the brightness and contrast to adjust your photo to make it look nice.

In paper printing, it will adsorb the ink that will make the photo look dark in print out result if the photo brightness is not enough.

Do the photo enhancement when necessary to get the good print out result for your photo book.

Photo Book VS Traditional Photo Album

Let's us see the definition for photo book and traditional photo album:

Photo Book - A real book with its own images and texts can be created. The resulting book is printed on digital color printers and case bound.

Traditional Photo Album:
Some photo albums have compartments which the photos may be slipped into; other albums have heavy paper with a abrasive surface covered with clear plastic sheets, in which photos can be put.

Photo album for 200pcs - around RM30 + 200pcs X RM0.40 (4R photo) = RM110
Hard Cover Photo Book A4 Size 40 pages (Can put up to 500pcs) - RM135/book (only cost you RM0.27)

From above comparation, we can say that Photo Book have many great features over the traditional album. Why not switch your way keeping your memorial photo from traditional album to Photo Book?

Joyful moment in prepare photo book design

Last night when I in preparing design a photo book for my kids with PIXAJOY Editor (Free Photo Book Design software), my eldest son come in front my laptop to see me design photo book. He felt interest when I start adding scrapbook in the design. He start asking me:

"Dad, I like cat, can you change my head style to cat."

"Sure". I drag a frame with Cat head in his picture and said "Son, now you're become Cat. You like it. haha".

"Haha, It's funny. Dad, Can you add a ribbon to youngest brother head?"

"Sure". Again, I drag a ribbon to my youngest son head.

"Haha Son, youngest brother look like a girl after adding the ribbon. Let me add one for you also. haha".

"Haha." My son laugh.

"Dad, the Bees is cute. Can you add here?"

"I like aeroplane, can you add into the picture also."

My son continue asking me to add this add that. I do it for him. So fun to see him contribute idea in design the photo book. I like design photo book. It is different with traditional photo album where you can add your own favorite design. It is joyful when you design with your family members.

Preparation for photobook design

I have do few photo book design before. Here are the best practice before you start design your photobook.

1) Collect all your favorite picture into a folder.
2) Group all the photo by same occasions, places, events together and naming accordingly by numbering.
3) Adjust your photo brightness in photo editing software like Adobe Photoshop, IrfanView, Photoscape and etc. Without adjust the brightness, your photo will look darker when print in paper.
4) Plan on how many photo you would like to put in a page.
5) Some photo book software will have autoflow or wizard function that will auto arrange your photo in every pages. That will help you more faster in arrange your photos in every pages.
